Iako je do 65. minuta imao 2 gola prednosti, Arsenal nije uspeo da izvuče više od remija na gostovanju Aston Vili, 2-2. Arsen Venger je zbog povreda nekolicine igrača i suspenzije Adebajora bio prinuđen da na teren izvede oslabljen sastav, sa usamljenim Van Persijem u napadu. Domaći su bolje počeli meč i u prvih pola časa igre imali nekoliko izglednih prilika za gol, pri tom čak pogodivši prečku i stativu. U tim momentima samo zahvaljujući sreći Vengerov tim nije primio pogodak.

Ipak, u 40. minutu stvari su se okrenule i Tobdžije dolaze do vođstva. Denilson je iskoristio lošu reakciju odbrane Aston Vile i savladao Breda Fridela. Pre kraja poluvremena Aleks Song zbog povrede napušta igru i ustupa mesto Aronu Remziju.

Tek su se 4 minuta drugog poluvremena odigrala, a Arsenal je već duplirao vođstvo. Nakon sjajne akcije Abu Dijabia i Emanuela Ebuea po desnoj strani, Francuz postiže pogodak i utišava domaće navijače. Ipak, po ko zna koji put ove sezone, Vengerov tim ne uspeva da sačuva prednost. Prvo je u 65. minutu, nakon nepravedno dosuđenog jedanaesterca, Geret Beri bio precizan sa 11 metara, da bi u nadoknadi vremena Zet Najt, udarcem sa 10-ak metara savladao, na ovom meču kapitena Arsenala, Almuniju i spasao svoj tim poraza.

Nakon ovog remija, Arsenal ostaje na 5 mestu na tabeli, sa 3 boda zaostatka za četvrtoplasiranom Aston Vilom i čak 10 za liderom prvenstva, Liverpulom.

Dok u svim drugim zemljama fudbal miruje oko novogodišnjih praznika, Englezi tradicionalno baš tad igraju još intenzivnije, tako da Arsenal novu utakmicu igra već u nedelju, kada na Emirate štiže ekipa Portsmuta.
